Spring Cleaning Finances

Your closet likely isn’t the only area you have unused items that you don’t really need and are just taking up extra space. Take a look at all the money you have coming in and out. Are you spending on things you don’t really need to be? It is time to stop your money from going to waste and to get your finances in order!

  1. Get organized. First things first, make sure you get everything together and sorted appropriately so it is easier to go through and analyze what you can get rid of and what you need to keep. Make sure you have a list of all your accounts so that you know where everything is and can figure out everything you own and everything you owe! Spring is the perfect time to do this as you just got everything organized to file your taxes.
  2. Review your Budget. It’s time to go through your annual budget. Did you stay on track this year? What were your problem areas and where did you beat your budget? Take a look at where you are overspending and create a plan for how you can improve that this year. Are you basically throwing money away by spending on “unnecessaries” that you can easily let go of? Use this time to check up on yourself and take a good look at what is coming in and what is going out.
  3. Prioritize Your Payments. Dig in to the stipulations on each and every one of the cards you have. Make sure that you are being smart about your payments. Pay the monthly minimum on each card you have and put the most on the highest rate card. And beyond that-can you get rid of any of the cards that you have open?
